When Barbara Gillick announced to her family and friends in March 2008 that she was retiring after 44 years of styling hair, everyone assumed she would start enjoying lazy days by the pool, happy hours, and lots of time with her grandchild! No one expected for her to conjure up another new and exciting business in the heart of Old Towne Eureka! Now, after having a “soft-opening” in June 2008, and then her Grand Opening in September 2008, Barbara (and her sidekick-husband, Charles) are amazed at the success their business is already experiencing!
It all started with one little vision….and after months of kicking around design ideas, the one-time office space, was converted into a beautiful, rich, warm, and yet, trendy, wine bar! They tore down walls, built an old-fashioned bar and all sorts of wine racks. They added a decorative fence, french doors, Eureka’s only grape-colored painted patio, and all sorts of breathtaking landscaping topped off with a relaxing fountain! Most patrons are probably beginning to realize after the first few months of the Eureka Wine House being open, that Barbara and Charles are the type of old-fashioned hard workers that will make their business prosper by the continual implementation of upgrades and improvements! Each time you visit, you will notice they have changed or added something…they just don’t know how to relax!
As far as what you might find at this new little gem….Obviously there is wine----over 120 different kinds ranging from $10 - $65 bottle! You can buy wine by bottle, the glass, or the case! For those who may not wish to indulge in wine, the Eureka Wine House also offers many different types of beer, soda, water, and mixed drinks. The easy-going atmosphere allows for you to purchase cheese, crackers, chips, sausage, gourmet fudge, and many other kinds of snack foods, or you can bring in your own food from home or a local restaurant! For those who want to escape the last few hours of work, you can bring your laptop down to the wine bar, and connect to their WI-FI! And for all of you animal lovers, the patio is pet-friendly…..so bring ole’ Bengi down for a cocktail!
The best part of Eureka Wine House that you will experience is the atmosphere! The appeal of Old Towne Eureka combined with the genuine charm of Barbara and Charles is sure to make your visit the first of many!
